Captain Lund is a Senior Marine Risk Consultant for Allianz Commercial Insurance. Since 2017 as a Senior Marine Risk Consultant, he helps underwriters, claims, brokers and assureds to evaluate Marine risks, mitigate losses, and make recommendations for all types of cargoes in transit, various vessels, and other marine related insurance risks. Capt. Lund has spearheaded and co-authored two Allianz Marine Risk Bulletins on Lithium-Ion batteries and has subsequently appeared as a subject matter expert in various marine industry magazines and webinars. He also is a volunteer member with his local Volunteer Fire Department and is now a New York State certified interior fire fighter. He currently serves in the position of Lieutenant with BVFD and is a member of the Ontario County HazMat response team in the Finger Lakes region of Western NY.

Prior to joining Allianz Commercial (AGCS), Captain Lund worked for over 25 years as a marine surveyor, including 10+ years with National Cargo Bureau, Inc. as well as being owner and principal surveyor of his own marine surveying business for over 15 years in the Port of Honolulu.

Captain Lund, a 1983 graduate from NY Maritime College, holds a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography, and has since earned his MBA degree. Upon graduating from NY Maritime, in addition to receiving his USNR ensign commission, he proceeded to sail deep sea on his unlimited license. He advanced his USCG license to Chief Mate unlimited, Master 1,000 tons during his early sea going career. He then moved into shoreside maritime employment as a marine surveyor for 3 different employers over the last 33 years. In that capacity, Capt. Lund has served as a safety inspector/investigator for various flag state entities, an OSHA crane inspector, a PHMSA DAA as well an IICL inspector. He has also since retired at the rank of Commander from the USNR. Today, Capt. Lund shares his extensive experience and hazardous material cargo knowledge as a member of various industry working groups including ICHCA, NFPA’s Research Foundation, and leads Allianz Commercial’s Lithium-ion battery emerging risk cross line of business work group.
